The cost of energy is still skyrocketing, and this can have a devastating effect on small and large businesses alike. This guide will help you make the best decisions regarding your energy usage and bring the skyrocketing prices crashing down.

1.     Swapping out expensive three-phase heaters for diesel or gas heaters.

A massive amount of money can be saved by swapping out your expensive three-phase space heaters for diesel or gas ones. To put this saving into perspective, a three-phase electric fan heater will cost ~£15.30 an hour to run, whereas an indirect diesel heater will cost you only ~£5.06. That’s over £10 an hour saved!

2.     Using recirculation/air inlet kits.

An air inlet kit is an attachment for indirect diesel heaters and they can massively reduce the running costs. They function in a similar way to the recirculation button in your car. Instead of drawing cold air from outside and expending fuel to heat that air and exhaust it into an area, they instead draw the air from the environment they’re heating. This not only allows the air to be heated more quickly, but the energy needed to heat the air is also much lower.

This results in the heater being up to 60% more efficient and costing as little as ~£2.02 an hour!

3.     Use shorter ducting where possible.

By shortening the distance the air needs to travel through the ducting, you are reducing the amount of energy lost and therefore the amount of heat lost in the ducting.

This will help to optimise your heating solution even further. It’ll also help to make your heating solution look less messy.

4.     Using BioEnergy/Waste Oil Heaters

Waste oil heaters are fantastic for businesses that generate, store or recycle any kind of waste oil, like garages, workshops and factories. These are a great way to save some money on fuel as well as an excellent way to use up anything lying around that you don’t want to store. Truly a two birds, one stone solution!

5.     Swapping from diesel to kerosene

Not every heater can take advantage of this, unfortunately, but the ones that can come with big savings attached.

Kerosene is used for heating for a few reasons. It burns cleaner than diesel and thus fewer CO2 particles are released into the air, kerosene is also less likely to turn gelatinous like diesel will at cold

Figures based on closest comparable 30kw output space heaters.

Estimate based on manufacturer specifications of estimated energy consumption per hour compared with average energy costs as of August 2022. Running costs can vary depending on operating conditions, wholesale energy price changes and costs, fuel quality and application. These calculations are strictly estimations.

August 2022 Fuel Prices:

-         Commercial Electric: £0.50 per kw/h
-         Diesel: £1.82 per litre
-         Propane Gas Bottle Refills: £3.84 per kg
