Efficient Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) Space Heaters

Ceramic heaters are perfect for spot heating and for warming small areas. You can use them as a portable, temporary source of heat for caravans, workshops, garages, offices, and other rooms. These space heaters have a positive temperature coefficient element that is made of a ceramic material. In infrared units, the ceramic is a solid block with metal fins that heat up and radiate warmth. Ceramic fan heaters have a honeycomb disc that heats up, and the holes that allow for airflow to heat a space through convection. An electrical current runs through the ceramic, causing it to heat up, and the heat then transfers into the space.

Ceramic elements differ from resistance wire, as the material increases its resistance as it gets hotter. You find ceramic heating elements in modern car windscreens and irons, which give you a good sense of how effective they can be. The properties of ceramic provides certain advantages, as it is incredibly safe, offers a larger surface area, and its also conducts the heat extremely well. Combined, these features make these heaters some of the most efficient types of electric heaters, as they waste almost no power. The larger size of the heating element means there is more heated surface to radiate or for the fan blown air to pass through. The ceramic also heats up quickly and cools down slowly, so it stays warm and provides heat without needing to use energy continually to maintain a temperature.
